So, we've got about 14 sites, all of which use shipping software for sending material. Each site has 1 or 2 shipping computers that have both FedEx Ship Manager and UPS WorldShip loaded on them. Now, we (IT) do not 'officially' support these programs themselves (the project to install them was directed by a prior logistics analyst, but as many things do, they tend to be de facto'd into IT's umbrella of handing the software), however we do handle the ODBC connection to our ERP system.
UPS WorldShip 22.0.15 can be downloaded from our software library for free. WorldShipTD.exe, ShipUps.exe, Support.exe, WSTDMessaging.exe and wstdPldReminder.exe are the most common filenames for this program's installer. UPS WorldShip belongs to Development Tools. Each system is integrated into our ERP system for importing and exporting customer/shipment data which makes it even more fun to troubleshoot.

They're not scalable. Neither UPS or FedEx has figured out a way to effectively develop an enterprise-friendly solution to deploying their software. We've got 14 computers that we have to worry about ODBC integration, upgrades and more upgrades, hotfixes, etc. Its a nightmare to manage. Yes, they do have a 'network client/server' option, but all this does is allow a shared shipping database of historical shipments. Would be nice to have shared configs, deployments, shipping history, connection settings, etc.
It's a nightmare to install. UPS and FedEx make it extremely difficult to install their own software. Both UPS and FedEx require you to register each PC to the account to be used using a prior invoice number, amount, etc. This is acceptable but does require a trip down to the A/P department file drawers to find a prior invoice. FedEx however won't even GIVE you their installer unless you give them your prior invoice information, PLUS contact information of the person on your account, phone numbers, tax ID, soforth. Even when you (DO) get their installer, the registration key they give you is only valid for a week. If you plan on doing a computer swap out, better make sure to get your registrations in order quickly and use them because they'll be inactive otherwise. (We did a PC swap out a few years ago, FedEx requires you to individually submit each software request for each account in question, no bulk download option. i.e. had to submit 14 requests to download 1 software program)

Label Printer Drivers - ugh. UPS tell you not to use the drivers that come with your label printer, but to instead use their 'own' label printer drivers for your specific model they provided you. Due to our own lack of consistency in my company in regards to label printers, each site pretty much has their own model of label printers, label sizes, etc which again, nightmare to support.
Both programs are bloated, they take high amounts of system resources. Both programs use a local instance of SQL for its own database and its slow.
Auto-upgrades: In the past few years these programs will now auto-update to the latest version. End users blindly click OK and get the new version which has caused issues with our integration in the past.
